Installation scope
What Should a Central AC Installation Quote Explain?
Two central AC quotes can have different totals because they describe different work. Before choosing between them, build a short comparison sheet. Give each contractor the same description of the property and the comfort problem you want addressed.
Identify the equipment combination
List the proposed indoor and outdoor models, capacity, controls, and components being retained. Ask how the equipment was selected for the house. ENERGY STAR recommends sizing from actual home characteristics and checking installation factors such as airflow. Matching the old unit's size is not a complete explanation.
If a quote uses a package name, request the model details behind that name. You should be able to see what equipment the proposal actually includes.
Read the work around the equipment
Ask how the scope handles duct connections, drainage, electrical supply and disconnects, equipment supports, removal, access, and startup. Clarify applicable permit work and any finish repairs. These items should be discussed for your site rather than assumed to be identical for every installation.
For electrical work, identify what will be inspected, retained, or changed and who is responsible for that scope. An allowance without an explanation can leave an important question unanswered. Keep internal electrical inspection and installation with qualified professionals.
Make exclusions visible
Record what is excluded and what findings could require additional work. Ask how a change would be documented and authorized. Compare the proposed schedule and written coverage terms alongside the equipment and labor scope. ENERGY STAR advises obtaining written, itemized proposals.
A website planning figure cannot establish the final conditions at your property. A useful price belongs to a clear proposal with enough detail to review.
